Allen Register shines a light through each of the alligator eggs, known as candling, to confirm if they are fertile or not after the group harvested 562 alligator eggs from Lake Miccosukee July 19, 2007. The commercial alligator farmers pay the state of Florida five dollars per fertile egg the collect to hatch and raise for the meat and skins. (Mark Wallheiser/TallahasseeStock.com)
