Commercial alligator farmers Carl Nettles, left, walks to an alligator nest with a stick as he and Wayne "Hoho" Brooks keep their eyes on a large female alligator hiding in the wet hole, lower left, as they work their way from their airboat to collect the alligator's eggs from her nest at Lake Miccosukee July 19, 2007. Lake Miccosukee was the last stop of their statewide harvest. The group included 14 men in six airboats and one helicopter from both the Florida Wildlife Commission and private commercial gator farms. The group collected 319 fertile eggs at Lake Iamonia in the morning and 562 eggs at Lake Miccosukee in the afternoon. The female alligators lay in wet holes near their nests to protect them and have been known to lunge out and attack the bare footed egg harvesters.
