Bird lovers release seven of fourteen Mississippi Kites today at the Southeast Farm Wastewater Reuse Facility on Tram Road. Fourteen of the raptors were blown from their nest in the Pensacola area during Hurricane Dennis and were cared for at the Audubon of Florida Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland before being brought to Tallahassee and released this morning. The 13 young birds and one adult were released at the wastewater facility in Tallahassee because of the large flock of Mississippi Kites that have taken up residence and hunt there. They wanted the young kites to learn from the resident kites prior to their migration to South America by early September according to Eric Draper of the Audubon Society of Florida.
